Hi Arkady, Michael, I think we are getting closer :-). > Yes, because it not updated together with HIMEM/EMM386 (and currently > not working), and it tied to TCPP. (This why I use above word "added" > instead "updated").
It is perfectly okay to support only TC++ at the moment. Also freeware. Well, TASM is not, but Arkady even has TASM. > this costs fixing 8 lines and adding 6 lines (this fixes one bug and > eliminate some warnings). Sounds reasonable. > MD> You're part of the post-1.0 EMM386 rewrite team, correct? > "I, contributor". :) Nice. Before that, you can help to bug-hunt FreeCOM 0.84, which is pretty important at the moment. >>> The more so, I don't know, how Michael packs executables > MD> As I've stated on this list, several times, the executables are packed > MD> using UPX. > I hear about SYPACK and about modified UPX. I see your name in THANKS > file of last UPX and suggest, that it may be used for packing HIMEM/EMM386 > now directly, without modifications. I don't know _how_ you pack, by which > command line (which utility and which options). You can assume that UPX now supports compressing combined sys-exe binaries like EMM386 and HIMEM out of the box. Older versions only supported plain SYS and plain EXE, which is why Tom wrote SYPACK / SY2PACK / SY3PACK / whatever. As that one is closed source, Michael later figured out how to make UPX support that file format, and eventually the UPX maintainers even did hear Michael's advice. >>> , so I can't reproduce _identical_ binary. Might depend on the used assembler (masm, tasm, nasm) and on the used version of UPX and on command line options like --8086 and --best. > I redirect this to freedos-devel. Okay...
