I patched Stargunner executable to remove the retrace function check and now it runs under Qemu. Much too fast to actually play, unfortunately and doesn't seem to take the firing keypress for the two seconds I stay alive, but it runs. I'll consider that proof of concept. This might be a side-effect of how Qemu operates as far as state optimizations and block translation, rather than any broken code.
