It's pretty clear the current requirements make this application non

I'm afraid the "free beer" requirement makes the programs non free in
the "free speech" sens of the word. Both for the FSF and the OSI, the
commercial use (including selling for a fee) has to be allowed.

For instance where I live many computer manufacturers sell their boxes
with FreeDOS installed in order to avoid the Windows tax and lower the
price (I'm typing this on such a HP laptop). The "free beer" requirement
would preclude them from installing these programs on their computers.
Also, not many people are going to manage to sell a free software
application when it's available at no cost, so IMHO switching to GNU
GPLv2+ would ensure it is going to be forever free in every sense of the
word.

Hence my humble suggestion: please use the GNU GPLv2+. This would make
things much simpler for the FreeDOS team and users, and your programs
would remain free as in free speech and in almost all cases as free
beer, too.
