I should add for anyone who's new and not familiar with FreeDOS: the
CDROM.BAT (in \freedos\bin) attempts multiple drivers to support the
CD-ROM drive, and it uses VECHO to print messages and VDELAY to make
brief pauses. Here's how to "hard-code" the CD-ROM driver manually
without it:
1. CD \freedos\bin
2. REN cdrom.bat cdrom.000
3. Create this CDROM.BAT file:
@ECHO OFF
DEVLOAD /Q C:\freedos\bin\UDVD2.SYS /D:CDROM1 /H
SHSUCDX /D:CDROM1 /Q+
4. Reboot
The UDVD2 driver correctly detects my virtual CD-ROM drive on QEMU (I
labeled mine "CDROM1") and SHSUCDX connects "CDROM1" as the E: drive.
This may or may not work for VirtualBox or other virtual machines (I
only have QEMU).
