sorry, should have included this in my initial question. Yes, it is an
UEFI machine from 2017 (AMI). The secure boot option is disabled but
there is no "legacy" setting avaialble. Does it make sense to try that?

It's probably UEFI, but boot into the UEFI "setup" program and see if
it has a 'Legacy' setting. That would emulate BIOS for a legacy OS
like FreeDOS (or any DOS).
