Hi,
Thanks. will need to work through what I can apply.
I am running an enhanced edition of ms dos 7.1.
That includes its own lfn option, what specifically is dos lfn?
Because I use speech, i actually created an elinks directory and unzipped the archive there. it seems you allowed the program to create its own directories, first, then copied items over. As I have multiple hard drives, I may try that approach, and see how it differs. And check out that later DOS compile of lynx.

Thanks,
Kare

tsiegel - thank you for posting, I am aware that Lynx continues
development, but compiling for DOS is quite another matter entirely. You'd
also need an updated TLS library.

Karen - I have posted before on Lynx for Dos, it is now posted here:
https://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/repositories/1.3/html/en/net/lynx/20220217.0/index.html
Get an updated cacert from curl to replace the outdated one:
https://curl.se/docs/caextract.html Or, you know, you could probably also
simply steal it from elinks.

For the elinks, as stated, you need doslfn. I let the elinks zip extract
it to the default of /opt, and created an empty /elinks. (Which it will
use to store its files) In /opt/elinks/bin was a el.bat. I renamed the
cacert to ca.pem and changed it in the el.bat file. From there, I ran it
and it seems to work just fine. Reminiscent of links, but quite different,
I highly recommend turning on color and tweaking other options. Does seem
to have a graphics mode like links but the graphic mode of links is slow
and unstable anyway.

Hi Dan,
I just shared that lynx updated this week. Curious about the DOS port of
lynx from 2021?

Hopefully those behind that port will update it now.
Glad you located this copy of Elinks as well.
I do have a question about an error I am getting when I try to install.
apparently the program is looking to create its config directory. The
error indicates it is looking for home, but as i run DOS only, I need to
edit whatever is acting as the .bat I suppose?
I copied the files themselves from the bin directory into a c:\elinks one.
Still, tried running the elinks executable from within bin as well, yet
am unsure where the file is I need to edit so it reflects my path?
Or, can I create the config as a sub directory?
Thanks,
Kare

A new dos browser interests me, thank you for bringing it to our
attention. I currently use Lynx and Links on my retro PC. However,
Links
hasn't been updated since 2024, and Lynx hasn't been updated since 2021.
(I'm surprised Lynx still works, I wish somebody would compile a newer
version) Elinks was mentioned here:
https://www.bttr-software.de/forum/board_entry.php?id=23447#p23456
And there is a download here:

https://github.com/rkd77/elinks/releases/download/v0.19.1/elinks-0.19.1b-dos.zip

It appears to work well in Freedos as long as you load doslfn.

Roger,
This specific DOS build came from others wanting to improve that
JavaScript functionality.
I cannot speak for any person's computing but my own.
still, there are places I can reach in elinks, in the Linux shells I
use
at least, that I cannot reach with any other tool.
It seasons my desire to test out this recent DOS build.

Used to use Elinks with the limited Javascript all the time, until I

Hi folks,
due to an interesting thread at DOS ain't dead, I discovered this
compile
of the Linux browser elinks.
I use a Ubuntu shell service, three of them actually, with elinks

That I might possibly find the greater level of JavaScript above links

DOS is a gift hard to articulate. Especially from a screen reader
standpoint.
Wondering if anyone is using the compile with their freedos setup?
have a simple question, so seeking another user.

Thanks,
