Yeah, but you had probably installed and configured software before. Indeed, he has tried to help. I'm not sure I need encouragement... or so my wife says. But statements like "it's all crap" just make me laugh. I don't get annoyed at them, because it's obvious that it's a lost cause, and I don't want to waste my time helping people who are unwilling to help themselves.
