As Michael stated, as long as the mysql-devel libraries are installed, you should be ok. I wonder, perhaps, if this was the problem all along. Perhaps since you had the freeradius-mysql rpm installed, it was using a copy of the driver that was not compiled the same way ... I can see how that might cause problems.. :) Make sure you have mysql-devel installed.
