Hello FreeRDP developers,
We have finally received the results of the Black Duck IP assessment that
was performed to ensure a proper license change. I have added additional
information about that in the wiki article about the license change:
http://www.freerdp.com/wiki/doku.php?id=license_change
You can also download the reports here, along with the source snapshots
used: http://www.freerdp.com/downloads/freerdp_blackduck.zip
Understanding the reports takes some analysis, but I found nothing
particularly alarming. The report mentions GPL licensing of certain build
scripts, and the BSD licensing of the asn1c generated code. One real problem
identified was the GPL licensing of code snippets that used to be contained
in ssl.c. This problem has now been fixed by simply removing ssl.c from the
FreeRDP code base. You'll notice the report mentions multiple "GPLv2" files
with a comment on the right saying that these files were agreed to be
relicensed. I checked all of those files that came out as such, and we did
get the approval of the people owning copyright on them.
When you have the time please review the report and see if you can find
anything which I could have missed. The only thing left in my mind would be
to take a closer look at serial_main.c, which raised a flag regarding
certain parts that appear to be of unclear copyright. Once we're done with
that, I think we can be confident enough to start claiming that FreeRDP is
Apache-licensed and release FreeRDP 0.9.
