Treating it this way did fix the problem with the SQ3 pod sound. I've noticed
that '-1' is the normal case for sounds too.. so perhaps when there's a looping
background music or something, the game loop sends more doSounds() instead of
letting the osund server loop it.

Okay, the framework for the midi driver is there, and the command-line options
are configured. As soon as I know that's working, I'll move the midiout_unix
driver over and make sure that works. :)
