Whoa! This used to drag the songs on, but now it belts them out at super
speed. I know changes were made to the timing/sleep routines. Interesting
things happen on playback. I will use SQ3 (the one I have been referencing)
to explain playback timing.

Game starts. Intro music plays ultra super fast. (It gets to the main theme
(with the drums) almost before the Sierra screen disappears.

Once the drums come in and there are more notes in general, the tempo slows
down to below normal speed.

Once Roger gets out of the door, the garbage scow theme plays ultra fast.
After it gets to be about 5 seconds in, the music just drops.

Here is some stuff from my console window:

Sound server: Using the win32e sound server 0.2

GFX-SDL 1091:Received unhandled SDL event 0011
timeEndPeriod(1) failed in kGetTime!

lots of timeEndPeriods came up obviously. I didn't let the intro music play
long. Those messages are up to the point Roger lands on the ground and the
music plays (and almost gets 1/4 of the way completed due to the fast tempo
it is moving) in about 5 seconds.

Those GFX-SDL 1091 events appear whenever I switch from the game window to
the console window. (And possibly any other window - Internet Explorer,
etc...) They have been there for some time, but don't seem to affect
anything. They just appear.

I did another one and immediately skipped the introduction to go to the pod
scene. The music played for a longer period of time. (Is there possibly a
general limit on # of midi notes or playback time? In this case - I didn't
let time/notes go by on the intro so the garbage music played longer.)

On this second try, there were a lot more of the kGetTime Errors scattered
throughout the mix. One last thing that was interesting - at the point where
the garbage music stopped, the last note played just held. It continued to
hold (with nothing else playing) and got increasingly louder over a period
of time.

-----

So we have had super slow and super fast tempos with the Event Server. :) If
only the tempo held consistantly at a faster speed like it did when it was
slow.

Of course, it still slows down on a large amount of notes. I am running a
Pentium III cu at 700 Mhz, and I know it was pointed out earlier that the
event server was processor taxing.

...but for the music to play ULTRA fast?

Just reporting in,
Chris
