IIUC Bruce described some embedded computer running some quite-standard OS, which happens to be RF-enabled and power efficient enough for handheld operation. I bet it would have an USB Port, maybe USB OTG or flexibe host/device ports, or dedicated host/device ports. I'd just plug in my keyboard and/or mouse and use that if the keypad is not enough.
