I originally, as well as others, have ported previous version of codec2 and
the hfmodem to the STMF4. I haven't attempted to use the onboard 12 bit
dac but instead used several different codecs. I suspect that for direct
hfmodem input the dac could be used but not sure that would be needed since
nice codecs are easy to integrate and cheap. If you are looking for an
easy solution any STM32F4 breakout style board can easily be connected to a
codec breakout board. I'm currently using a waveshare board with phillips,
several TI, and ws codecs via I2S. The discovery board is not helpful
since it has the MMICS and separate line-out codec but it does work as
there is a project posted on github with a older codec2 port. I do have
my own design that integrates both a STM32F4 for codec2 and a AMBE 3000
series dsp for a project I've been working on with DMR. I'm hoping that
the end project that is worked on will have ability to do raw codec2 via
USB, SPI, I2C, serial and ability to do multiple modulations (HFModem,
GSMK, C4FM) via I2S to a codec. Thats what I have been working towards and
what I have to assume gets it to the point of a add-on board for radios,
module for integrations, etc that really puts codec2 on devices that are
not full blown computers.
