At one point I knew Troff really well. I am profoundly relieved that I
haven't had to use it in a really long time.
The creators of scientific papers of all types are profoundly reluctant
to make use of modern word processors, and protest the ugliness of the
output of LibreOffice when I have asked them to do so. I believe their
feelings to be specific to mathematical typesetting. Libreoffice
actually contains a multivariant equation solver! I would have thought a
lot of work went into its rendering, but apparently not enough for the
Cult of Knuth.
