When I first hired on as a tech writer in the early 80's, I was given a stack of yellow pads. I asked for a word processor computer, and they said no. So I brought in my H-89 CP/M and Wordperfect and that was that. We had "lino" Korean ladies that spoke no english, just typed what they saw, and they were remarkable at reading our handwriting.
When I started handing in double spaced type, already spell checked, they thought I was a f---ing man from outer-space. The thing was, that we got payed by the finished page, so I could work a lot faster, and skip two revision cycles with the lino ladies. After I got enough money to buy me a new truck, I was on the road again! ha. I miss my H-89 though, that was a nice machine. I played with ROFF and VI in college, but after I got the Programmers Editor on the H-89 (Software Toolworks If I remember), that was my editor of choice until Turbo-C 1.5 IDE came out...
