Daniel,
Agreed, to a point. One thing that I would like to see though is this; rather
than stressing additional range, at least for repeaters, we should be stressing
lower power consumption for the same range repeaters currently possess. My
personal belief is that there are too many single frequency pair wide coverage
repeaters as it is and we need to discourage "more of the same" from any new
technology we implement; we have the ability (and the know-how) to link
repeaters via Voice over IP on the SHF ham bands (mesh networks and such) so
why not utilize that as the backbone of any system we design. The nice thing
is, and I know that Bruce is tired of hearing this from me, we already have a
good example of a protocol that can use any form of IP networking we can
implement the gateways on.

Subject: Re: [Freetel-codec2] perils of single frequency repeaters
One last thought on this, if we can get low cost hardware out there that WAY
out dose existing FM. Even the "Old boy's" will want to switch. We stand to win
a few ways:
   - Low Cost Repeaters - even a handheld could be used
   - More services - messaging etc
   - Longer range - way longer
   - Way better quality - as soon as the SNR supports it we can have HD voice.
   - Smart routing.
   - Full-duplex voice
When people start realizing how great it really is, we should be able to get a
lot more people on board.
We just need some more bright people to get involved to help out with getting
this GMSK code all finished up.  It would be really nice to actually see a BER
for each method to see what it's doing.
