Debian Buster GUEST , in VM (VMWARE) on windows 64 bit host

I get TX audio to radio outbuffer empty counter running mad and obviously audio gaps in TX

happens with PCIe sound or USB sound.

changing base priorities niceness  etc no improvement.

(unless freeDV is overriding something I need to look at, since I have done a bit of this sort of thing)

increase buffer sizes , FIFO depth into the stratosphere. no difference.

generated audio files are OK.

Feels like a deadlock bug.  But works fine for everyone else ?

VM ware tools and counters and stats says it is getting plenty of CPU time.

anyone else seen this in a VM ?

I have not tried it native linux (with no hypervisor )
