Seems to still be the same mailing list? Maybe I missed something. > however : > > yes, pro tools- if you want to compete with the pros, then you got to > use the pro tools. > > if codec2, freeDV etc wants to compete for head space with the japanese > radios and the speech codec chip owners, that's the only way. > > it's not going to compete by putting a radio in a showbox when pro tools > put it in a matchbox ! > > frankly, as a pro, I dont have time to F*** around with Kicads > defficiencies , compared to the $10,000 altium tools. If you want to develop the SM3000 entirely alone then sure. I just whip up my own tools whenever I find a spot where KiCAD isn't quite suited. We all have different workflows. > and I dont have time to F**k around with child grade FPGA simulators > compared with my $10,000 Modelsim. * This is unnecessarily rude. > Now having said that : > > 1) Altium ha a free Viewer, and can export to several PCB programs. > > 2) The reduced feature MODELSIM version supplied with the Xilinx tools > is EXCELLENT - and pretty good speed on a modern PC. > > 3) The Xilinx tools are FREE . Like VIVADO. You should know the difference by now between libre and gratis. People like me are very careful not to end up in a situation where we are beholden to companies like Altium. I tried installing Vivado on my 8-core i7 running Debian, but I had to give up because of the amount of hoops jumping necessary. Yosys and nextpnr by comparison are a breeze to install. iverilog, gtkwave and kst2 work well enough for my simulation needs. I have some Makefile- driven tests in mind as well, something which is impossible to do with Vivado as far as I can tell. /Tomas _______________________________________________ Freetel-codec2 mailing list [email protected] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/freetel-codec2
