The concurrent version given by Mozilla is .6 which puts their opinion of
the code development at just past half way finished. I am not exactly
surprised that AOL/Netscape has no problem releasing this code though. It
has long been the standard of AOL to release crap code. That being said...
I don't have the current version of Netscape but had downloaded N6 and
tested it earlier this year. While I despise the new user interface and the
memory it uses I did find that if I coded with strict attention to the dtd I
was using that it rendered perfectly. It does not however have IEs loose
fault tolerances and will not gloss over poorly formed html. This is
probably a dumb move on AOL/Netscapes part even if it is the 'right thing to
do'. Consumers who try to use N6 and find many of the websites they visit
getting mangled will blame Netscape and not the website they have been
visiting for the last three years without problems.

If looking for a decent reference I have been really pleased with Ian S.
Graham's "XHTML 1.0 Language and Design Sourcebook" which does a rather good
job of documenting how IE and Netscape handle both mark up and css. Like
many developers I have a whole stack of html references including several of
the dtds from w3c and this book is the one I use 99% of the time I need to
look something up. BTW, if anyone knows of any good books out there
narrowing the browser divide let me know, I am always looking for more.

I have not yet put any time into testing javascript on N6 and don't plan to
until it gets a little easier to download N6. I have not been able to
connect to Netscape's ftp for the last couple of days from here.
