Hm. I'm sure the time-shift feature will be too processor expensive for me. That's why I just switched from mythtv to freevo; mythtv always has a buffer for time-shifting, and hence requires a fast machine. I'm working on an overlay alternative for freevo. I'm guessing that there are others out there who would consider dedicating an older computer to be a dedicated freevo-machine, but not wanting to buy a new high peformance machine for the job. The overlay TV stuff has two parts: one is a Python class which does the v4l ioctls (written in C), and the other is a Python class which can be an alternative to src/tv/mplayer.py, and fills the freevo window with blue (the chromakey), onto which the TV image is overlaid. I have the basics working, but two issues: * I want to tell v4l where on the screen the overlay (freevo) window is. Can I get this information from pygame? Once I dedicate the machine to the TV, I don't think this will be a problem, because the freevo stuff will fill the screen. But it would be nice to do now all the same. * I havn't yet understood how the system handles input events. Is there documentation on this anywhere? What do I have to do in my mplayer.py replacement? > Also, just to be clear: you have the Matrox _Marvel_ G400? with TV-in and > -out on the same card. Is that correct? Yes. > for an alternative to xawtv, look at tvtime.sourceforge.net Does tvtime support overlay mode? The features look so fancy that I would think that it processes the image data just like mplayer.
