        As far as I understand things, comparing mga_vid with syncfb is like comparing 
apples to oranges. They serve different uses. SyncFB was a rework of mga_vid to 
benefit high-res, high refresh displays (your monitor) while mga_vid does what it can 
to benefit output on your TV.
        They had different goals and I would think that having both supported by xine 
would be benefitial.
