short answer: "Don't use the runtime" :) If you're developing, you may want to try and build your own versions of things. Depending on your distro, most of the dependencies may be available elsewhere.
I know Gentoo and Debian have simple ways to get all the packages you'd need, and I keep the Debian stuff very current since I use it myself.
