Managed to get around the locale prob with setting it to export LC_CTYPE=en_GB.ISO8859-1. But the <c:#FFFF00> messages are still there in the srt file ?
Oh well i probably have to upgrade ivtv. And for that i need to upgrade kernel, miscellaneous other things. And in the end I'm better off upgrading the whole lot.
