I use my amp to decoe the ac3 and control each channels volume. That
being said, I am not avert to a 'sound' menu to manually configure
each chanels volume if its possible... But I don't think with my
carruent hardware it is for me. Might be time for me to get an
ex-digi hey?
I've chosen to handle 6-channel audio in this manner because my motherboard
has this feature built in. Some motherboards have 8-channel audio (Front,
Side, Rear, Center and Bass(LFE)). When I get around to building a development
machine specifically for Freevo, I'll incorporate 8-channel controls.

_MY_ goal for developing the audio this way is for the purpose of having a
"true Media Center" for my home. To me, a "true Media Center" is a monitor or
TV, a PC with a network connection and a set of speakers connected directly to
the PC. No auxiliary hardware is needed.

Your comment about sixmixer not being for you is great. That's the idea,
too! The default mixer.py isn't going to go away any time soon. Sixmixer.py
is a replacement IF one has 6-channel support on their motherboard or sound
card. There's also the possibility of a "fourmixer.py." I'm not sure why
anyone would want to have only 4 channels but it IS a possibility.

Anyway, I've got a lot ahead of me and progress will be a bit slow at first
as I have to re-learn the Freevo internals and then learn the 1.7 and 2.0
branches to make the plugin forward compatible. For now, the only PC I've got
for development use is the 1.6.2 production machine which is my only Media
Center. I can't afford to blow it completely apart for the purpose of
developing on the new branches although I'm sure I could find a way to install
them all side-by-side.

Again, we'll see how this all pans out.

  Cheers,

  Michael
