I'm not going to blame Alan Cox since he's, well, a brilliant guy, but mistakes sometimes to happen. My positive experiences with ReiserFS have only been on stable kernels. My website recieves a fair number of page views and it's a low end machine, but thanks to ReiserFS, it never goes down for long and the performance is pretty good. I would try the stable kernel and see how it works for you before rebuilding your file systems. It's also possible that corruption is caused by incompatibilities between your motherboard driver and Reiserfs.
