fbxine appears to be about the framebuffer (from the name, I guess) but Dischi's changes prevent it from trying to use the framebuffer; only the video output.
so, fbxine --stdctl -V dxr3 should work without needing you to have a framebuffer. The quickest way to explain is that Xine has a "control" and a "play" mode. In the older versions, xitk/gxine use X11, fbxine used fbdev; now, fbdev can optionally skip the fbdev for the "control" and only use the video output for playback. I think you should try 0.9.22 of fbxine (or CVS) and just run this: (I always do this via ssh) barrelhaven:~$ sudo fbxine -V dxr3 -a 0 -A alsa --stdctl dvd:// (If you don't use ALSA, just remove the -A alsa) If your version supports stdctl (0.9.22 or newer) you will see the DVD working, I imagine.
