I think if the URL's for required cutting-edge packages are
provided in a list, it's easy to pass this in to Debian as
alternative download sites for autocompile.

It's doubtful; a lot of the stuff we use is fairly cutting edge. It's
possible that it /may/ work, but I don't know if everything you need
is available.

You could try backporting the packages from unstable, but there are
quite a few:

python-pygame
xmltv-util
libxmltv-perl
python-xml
python-imaging
python-pylirc
python-twisted

Those would be the minimums. Pylirc isn't in any version of Debian,
but the CVS (pylirc.sf.net) includes debian build rules.

you also need

mplayer mplayer-fonts python

I'm using "Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 (`woody') -- current
stable release". So, it's not possible for me to use
the apt-get?

added Marilliat's apt source. All the packages are
there (lame,
mplayer in Mariliat's, xmltv-* in sid)

OK, I tried the apt-get command, but it resulted

in

the following output:

Reading Package Lists...
Building Dependency Tree...
Some packages could not be installed. This may

mean

that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are

using

the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not

yet

been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is
extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug

report

against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the
situation:

Sorry, but the following packages have unmet
dependencies:
task-freevo: Depends: python2.3-pygame but it is

not

going to be installed
Depends: xmltv-util but it is not
installable
               Depends: libxmltv-perl but it is

not

installable
               Depends: python2.3-xml but it is

not

installable
               Depends: python2.3-imaging but it

is

not installable
               Depends: mplayer
               Depends: python2.3-pylirc but it is

not

going to be installed
               Depends: python2.3-twisted but it

is

not installable
               Depends: python2.3-sqlite but it is

not

installable
               Depends: python2.3-mmpython but it

is

not going to be installed
               Depends: python2.3-fchksum but it

is

not going to be installed
Depends: lame but it is not going

to be

installed
E: Sorry, broken packages

If you want to use CVS freevo, just use the

Freevo

apt source, do an
'apt-get install task-freevo' and it'll fetch

all

the dependencies
that are in the runtime.
