Here's my two cents > I've got a K6-2 400Mhz machine that I'm using as a fileserver/router. If I > buy a good card for it, could I use this machine as the freevo server? Or do > I need to buy another (dedicated?) machine?
A 400mhz will let you get away with playing movies/TV or Recording but not both simultaneously, since the CPU will be almost maxed out. > If I have to buy another machine, can I save video to the fileserver via nfs? I use samba to save my files on a remote machine, but this requires 100bT. 10bT doesn't cut it. I don't know how permissions and locking (or lack there of on nfs) will effect freevo. > What I eventually want is to be able to record television programs like I > would with a VCR, except I'd like to have more than 4-6 programming slots I don't know what you mean by slots. You should look in to the webserver/record server, it lets you point and click to record TV shows. The layout is similar to zap2it.com. > and > I'd like to be able to select pre-recorded programming from a menu or even > re-broadcast it at a later date, say on channel 3. If your interested in playing the videos on your TV, Freevo is set up to play videos through some Videocards with TV-Out and Hollywood +/ Creative DXR3 cards. > Am I barking up the right tree? > > Thanx, > Mike -Hope this helps ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email sponsored by: ApacheCon 2003, 16-19 November in Las Vegas.
