That is really strange and very irritating! Actually I do not understand,
why that should be that hard, I mean PAL and NTSC are very old standards and 
every
common TV is able to produce a good picture. But anyway...

Actually I tried with mplayer so far, but thanks a lot for the hint with 
directfb-extras,
I was already wondering where to find df_xine. I will try that as soon as 
possible.
I am using 1.0.1 by the way, but the kernel is very recent (2.6.22)

 From your directfbrc I learn that I should not load matrox-marven as a module 
and
that I need i2c-matroxfb. I will look into that, but it seems that I am missing 
i2c-matroxfb.
That should be in the kernel source, shouldn't it?

Hopefully I get it running this weekend, otherwise I will have to try to revert 
back to the old 
setup, as my husband gets unhappy after over a week without freevo ;-)
