Are you using leased servers? Do you have control, or do they?
In truth, I've begun updating all the 6.2 servers to 7.1 as it's getting harder
to find prebuild rpms for 6.2 for different libraries and such :( 7.1 is also
pretty darn fast... If you had that option, I would go for it. As you are
working with remote control, that makes it more difficult to reboot and test
your new kernel. It's always a little dicy to try in remotely. You can update
the 6.2 distro to the 2.4 kernel series... but there are so many more package
updates than just the kernel... sendmail, bind...
