Subject: Freevsd QuestionsI am new to freevsd. I want to implement it for my hosting biz running Redhat 7.1. I have the following questions and I was hopping if you could answer them or direct me in the right direction.
1. I am running postfix as my email server as oppose to sendmail, Are there any hooks for managing postfix from freevsd ? My postfix uses mysql database server as a map. That is, mysql is used in place flat files for administration.
2. My server is going to be hosting the following application on my server. Are there compatible issues with freevsd with following?
a) Apache 1.3.20
b) Mysql 3.23.x
c) Postgres 7.1.2
d) Postfix (mail server)
e) IBM Java 1.3.0
f) JBoss-2.4.0.23_Tomcat-3.2.3
g) Quick time server
h) Bind
i) SSH
j) SSL
k) PHP 4.0.6
2b) Does freevsd have hooks for virtual host for tomcat?3. The above mentioned applications have already been installed on my server, if I install freevsd will it mess up anything? I want to be able to provide fine grain control for virtual accounts on my server. Is this possible with the application I have installed.
4. How do I get VSDWebAdmin scripts to use postgres as oppose mysql? Is it as simple as changing reference form mysql to postgres in my php scripts
thanks
Patrick
Title: Freevsd Questions
Firstly, I wouldn't advise using RH 7.1 at this
time.Unfortunately we have continued to encounter problems with it and must
continue to consider it 'beta'. We are, however, working extremely hard to
resolve the issues which are outstanding. RH6.2 therefore has to be the
recommended platform for the time being...
In
answer to your other questions:
1.
freeVSD does not currently support postfix. This would require a new module to
be written (mod_postfix?) which is probably only a weeks work for someone
familiar with the freeVSD code base. Deciding how to support MySQL-based
configuration as well as flat-file format would require some thought as the
module should be as generic as possible.
2. If
applications work correctly together on the hosting server you can
reasonably expect them to work correctly within the chrooted virtual server
after you have generated your own skel (unfortunately this is not yet true for
RH7.1). (freeVSD does not provide any specific support for
tomcat)
3.
freeVSD is now very good at installing and uninstalling itself cleanly to leave
the original system intact.
4.
Sorry, no idea on this one. I am still resisting having to do PHP
coding...
