Hi there,

I'm just thinking about the way to save configuration data on a router...
It was a nice way to save most of it to nvram, not only because it was
partly portable between the original firmware and (Open|Free)WRT but
also because one could upgrade the firmware image without loosing the data.
I'd like to administer lots of VPN appliance devices spread around the
country and want to be able to upgrade the devices to keep track of
bugfixes etc. But with all config in "/etc/config" this might be
overwritten on an update or am I completly wrong here?

The other way around it is not very likely to save X509 Certificates in
nvram to have them persistently available so what about an "extra /etc
partition" which is writeable and static throughout firmware updates?

any suggestions?

/Markus
