We are not dropping anything that works. After all, even if
OpenNTPD is clearly the preferable solution, people might
have valid reasons to use ntpdate/rdate.

I was more thinking in terms of: private IP network, one
time server gets the time via GPS, need to use it instead
of pool.ntp.org.
