I admit that I looked at this possibility in the past and
rejected the idea.  One reason is that more deterministic
build is better than one which changes depending on
environment.  Second (and more important) is that generation
of images takes over the screen effectively inhibiting
any other use of the machine.  I feel that having to
invoke extra target during build is small price to pay
for control over unpleasent aspects.

I would rather work on eliminating need for X during
documentation build.
