I've slightly lost track of this, are you saying 0*n, n*0 and 0*0 will all be displayed as [] as with your original patch? I think that this would be a big improvement on the current situation.
However I think that a row (0*n) or column (n*0) matrix with place markers ('_') would be even better. Is that what Waldeks patch does?
