It's "onde", not "vague". In French, you would say "length of wave" instead of "wavelength" which translates to "longueur d'onde", the "d'" being the "of" part. Lambda λ is the greek letter associated to it. In Network Geek, it is often associated with xWDM : if you shop for a XWDM wavelength on a shared fiber, you are shopping for a lambda. The lambda is the "color" of a "colored optic", as opposed to a "grey" one.
