I actually talked to someone (I forget who now) from ITS fairly recently
(within the last semester) who asked _me_ about having linix computers in
labs. I'm sorry my memory is vague on this, but I got the impression that
they would be open to moving a few lab computers (possibly in the library) to
linux, if they were given the proper guidance on how to lock them down. I
remember responding that creating such a locked-down linux installation would
be a good project for some enterprising members of fsck. I know there are
some resources online talking about this kind of thing (I think KDE has a
kiosk mode that might be of some use). Any interested parties? If we did
have a concrete proposal to take to ITS, complete with a demonstration, it
might go somewhere.
