Being a Flash newbie, yes this is my first question on fugli, I'm wondering about this security issue of not being able to access a swf other than with the same top level URL. Specifically in terms of the shift from development to production, which are obviously going to have different URLs.
I've just published my first SWF in production and changed the URL in the createGatewayConnection call to be the URL of the production environment. It worked but I'm guessing that this is not best practice. So what is the best way to manage this? Can Flash do a 'getURL' call to find out the home address and use that in the connection, or is there a cleaner more elegant solution?

When testing swf's you should always load them on the same web server as your CFMX installation.
You need to make sure that Flash's inherent security sandbox (a swf in a browser cannot access any URLs/Sockets outside the domain it is sitting on).
This MAY be causing your problem (may not as well).
But as a general rule, I'll display a 'version number' in the bottom RHS of a my SWF, and update that as I upload new SWFs to the sever - that way I KNOW I'm looking at the right one in my browser. (Flash can cache like a b* sometimes).
This way you aren't going to get caught by security issues later on.
