Given that the decrease in violent crime, especially forcible rape and assault on women, is strongly correlated in time, and jurisdiction, with the implementation of shall-issue carry, the evidence is pretty strong. However, I invite you to read the research, rather than take my word for it.
I find it entertaining how socialists love to use correlation as proof when it suits them (Global warming, FE), but immediately jump on that to naysay what doesn't suit them. The argument that supports the statistical evidence, that the mechanism is well understood (criminals are cowards, and when they don't know who's armed choose non-occupied property crimes, or tourists who are clearly not armed; the CO2 greenhouse effect is similarly well understood), is the same in both exemplary cases. I'd say the cultural underpinnings of the US go back at least as far as those of the modern UK, and that the US, not the UK, is more true to the traditions of the English FreeMan, although both have, of late, been throwing the traditions under the bus in the name of "security". >-----Original Message----- >From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] >On Behalf Of der Mouse >Sent: Monday, December 08, 2008 2:55 PM >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [funsec] medical guns! > >> [...] unaware of the extensive statistical studies conducted at the >> University of Chicago on the matter of how concealed carry by the law >> abiding reduces violent crime. > >Reduces, or correlates with lower levels of?
