I used a version of OO in the early stages of a book a while ago when I had
to switch laptops a bit sharpish, for some of my own chapters and first-cut
editing. I wasn't too bothered about the occasional bug and missing feature
in the interface, and the formatting issues with incoming material from
other sources weren't much worse than I expected. But it didn't like the
publisher's template at all, and (even native) files that didn't save
properly or wouldn't open again were a serious PITA, so I opened my wallet
and went back to MS.

It may well be much better now, but I wouldn't risk using it for a critical
project again.
