OT: Threaded Discussions

Does anyone know of a good place online to read about building a threaded
discussion app. 

I know there are a bazillion different freebees out there that I could just
download and use, but I'm a new programmer and am interested in doing this
for the learning experience.

I thought intenet.com had an article somewhere about the logic involved in
"threading" a discussion, but I can't seem to find it anymore.

(not totally off topic - I'll be building it in Cold Fusion :)
