Most Yahoo-style web directories have worked that way for years now. Have a
look at (http://www.yahoo.com), or (http://www.dmoz.org)... Google's
directory is just a modified copy of dmoz.org.

I don't agree with everything Nielsen has to say on the subject of
usability, but he's absolutely correct in noting that URLs (ideally) should
give the user an idea of where he is within a site's structure.
