With that particlar client though it's all relative to his view. Once you send out your website to get indexed to a million places it just takes time. So you have customer a that spends a ton of money with consultants and search engine safe url's and I have customer b that does a link exchange program, no ses url's. They will both get results, they will both take time, except customer b has more cost and has a little processor overheard for ses urls, and not as good log reporting, whereas customer b spent little money and has meaningful log reports. 2 years ago search consultants were worth something, but ever since google set the bar higher and determined that keywords really don't mean anything a lot of the more popular search engines have had to follow that and find better ways to analyze websites. I bet your client has a lot of people linking to him saying go here for such and such they have a good site. That is where he really gets his traffic from.

I have one particular client who gets nearly *all* his business from seach engine referrals. He spends a fortune on search consultants, optimizing his keywords etc. I was surprised but he *is* making money. Try telling him that some search engines don't matter...

So why do you bother using SES urls? Granted there are search engines out there that don't spider dynamic sites, but how much longer could those really be around anymore?

It does suck - like I said, I ended up writing my own log files and my own analyzer.  The reports I need are not quite as in-depth as what Webtrends offers, but they work for me.

I did not realize that, why bother even using ses url's then. I thought they were supposed to help with reporting. I am gonna have to redo that site now. At least using non SES url's I have the option of products eventually decoding the url stream. This totally sucks.

I think that part is actually the http_referer (which I get too).  What do you show for an actual http get of a page?  This one looks like it's a page hit for threelogos.jpg.

I use SES URLs, so where you have http://127.0.0.1/shop/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.products&ndx=244&sec=1&cat=6, I would have http://127.0.0.1/shop/index.cfm since I get nothing after index.cfm with SES.  If I use a "normal" query string, then I would get exactly what you do.  I have been able to get Webtrends to show me the query string, but it was not without difficulty.  Unfortunately, I don't remember how I did it - there's a screen somewhere where you can set up a bunch of individual URLs to look for, and I think that's where I did it.  It did take a f'n lifetime though, since I had to set up almost every possibility.

Here is a sample from my logfiles, I have all of the default webtrend suggested logging checked. Are you missing any of this, it seems to me that it is catching everything a user does on my end, what is different on yours?

The base problem is that IIS does not log PATH_INFO.  Nothing to do with webtrends at all.

Shouldn't the real solution come from Webtrends? Maybe the FB Steering Committee could open negations with Webtrends on behalf of the ever-growing fusebox community to create an FB3 plugin or something for Webtrends.
