Guys, correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Troy was saying anything about charging for the pdf distribution. I don't see anything wrong with doing something nice for the community, even if it involves someone else's work, as long as it stays free.
Of course, taking that work and making a profit off it without sharing with the original author is deplorable. But that's not what we're talking about here, is it? Then again, Troy should check with Hal first to make sure Hal wasn't about to release a pdf version of his own on a per fee basis because that would under cut Hal's hard earned profits. Am I correct? Just trying to figure out this open source community thing... Do you feel that you have the right to take someone elses intelectual property, change the file format, and distribute it? Hell I know, go out, rewrite Visual Studio in Delphi, sell it for half price. You'll make a bundle. I cannot believe that you as a software developer (yes thats what we are, even if it is web based) could say something like this, especially in public. People who steal make it harder for those of us who do produce to show a profit, and in doing so make it less likely that developers will be able to release things for free. God do you have any idea how hard that man has worked for this community, and for ColdFusion? Have you know respect or decency? He was kind enough to give, what he could have charged for, and now you feel the need to knock him for it? Hal I would pull it, generate a pdf, and sell it for $20 after this little tiff. I re-tract my motion then. I'll do it myself and send you a copy John. -T -----Original Message----- From: Steve Nelson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Sunday, June 02, 2002 4:18 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Hal Helms latest writing I third the motion IF AND ONLY IF Hal charged $10-15 for it.
