Still might be trying to understand "apples" versus "oranges" here.
However, how would FP Imposer interpret this...

PDF Template is 2 pages (double-sided), therefore 2 pages per record.
Instance file contains 53,512 records.

.fpi file programmed as follows...
  - Document
     - Pdf file "loaded" in so 2 pages per record are programmed
automatically
     - Finished Size 8.5 x 11
  - Press Sheet
     - 11x17
  - Layout
     - Duplex Perfected
     - Stack setting of 500
     - Horizontal setting of 2

The "display area" for the Layout section correctly has records 1 and
501 showing up on both sides of the press-sheet.

To my way of thinking, since I programmed 2-up with a stack count of
500, FP Imposer should handle chunks of 1000 records "evenly" when sent
from the FP Composition engine. 2 x 500 = 1000.

Subject: [fusionpro] RE: Incompatible chunks during composition and
crashes

I'm not sure what the problem is exactly, without seeing the job, but I
think you've got it backwards. You need to multiply the number of
records per sheet times the number of sheets per stack in FP Imposer and
then make sure that that number is evenly divisible by the number of
records per chunk defined in your Composition Settings. In other words,
the chunk size must be an even multiple of the *total* number of records
per stack, including any horizontal and vertical repeat.

For instance, I can take a job (say, the Cell Phone Tutorial) and set it
to compose in chunks of 100 records, and impose with Horizontal count of
2 and Stack of 50, and I get no errors, because each output file
contains 100 records of two pages each, 2-up on 100 sheets. 200 records
per chunk works fine too. However, if I try to compose with only 50
records per chunk with the same Imposition settings, I get the warning
message, because it's still expecting to stack 100 records (2 times 50),
but there are only 50 available in the chunk. (It's fine for the last
chunk to be short, of course, but FusionPro is trying to let you know
that it can't handle the settings you're specifying for *any* chunk.)
So I think the message is correct, but it should probably be a bit more
specific. Imposition is admittedly a fairly complicated thing.

Having said all of that, though, if the program is actually crashing,
that's definitely an issue we want to address. If you can send Support
a set of files that reproduce the problem, we will definitely look at
them.
