Howdy David -

The 4 state barcode is a bit of a mystery here at our post office. It is
something that we are beginning to test and we were actually requested to go
and teach several handlers about it at our main drop post office. I still
think we are a couple of months away from putting apart as the norm. There
really isn't any type of discount that we know of for using it (more than what
we get now) - more like just bragging rights and kutos with your mailing guys.

http://ribbs.usps.gov/onecodesolution/

Is a great resource - especially the resource guide that is posted there.
There are just tons of options that can be included into the barcode - one of
interest for us is the addition of adding a sequence number upto 9 digits
inside the barcode (no more putting it into the piece when needed) and tracking
end to end.

It isn't going to be forced to be used for a couple years yet - but because of
the attractive features we wanted to get into it sooner. We are actually
already using it in fusion pro - but all of the data has to be prepared before
it hits fp. They have a office program set - with fonts and examples for excel
and access that we have used to get us the string of characters needed to
convert the what is now text characters to the new barcode font. E-mail me if
you want it as an attachment.

Customers that mail are interested that we have seen, the 10% that know of it,
however we haven't had any requests to use / or demand as of yet. Nor does our
mail programs handle it - it all has to be done outside of that process as of
now.

Hope that helps.

David,

Thanks for the excellent post!

We continually look at the push/pull dynamics that exist in our industry
when deciding on new enhancements for our VDP, Web to Print, and now
Personalized URL technology. Our goal is to deliver new enhancements to
our customers that offers a high ROI, competitive advantage, and aligns
our customer to fulfill the needs of their clients.

OneCode is one of those enhancements that scores highly on these
criteria - it has definite high ROI for a large number of our customers
(especially when you consider that in the worst case scenario, our
customers may lose business in the future if they cannot offer this
capability at the clients' request). It also allows our customers to
gain business when this is a requirement (where, perhaps, the customer
is using another vendor that does not offer OneCode and this customer
wants to implement it).

Are any others seeing the customer request that OneCode be implemented
on their mailings?

Thanks again for the great post, David!
