Another thought Allison,
Instead of just writing one value to this log file, why don't you just
keep a running log of orders with date, time and number of output cards
printed.
That way when you read in the numbers in the OnJobStart rule I
mentioned, you would just need to add the individual entry values in the
log file together to get your final beginning amount. Plus the fact that
you now have a running job log in case your customer questions a total
order bill.
