Hi Christopher,

If you're composing with FusionPro Server, you need to make sure that the
Assets.dat file (generated when you collected the job from Acrobat) is in the
same location as the DIF (format) file. The Assets.dat file is the key to our
font collection technology, which allows jobs to be composed on a remote
machine without having all the same fonts as the machine on which it was
designed. In other words, the answer to your question, "Does the font need to
be resident and active on the disk running Server?" is No.

Also, you need to make sure that any fonts you want to collect with the job are
referenced in the Text Editor, either in the content of a text frame (flow) on
a page (i.e. in the DIF file), or in a Formatted Text Resource. Fonts that are
referenced only in tags (whether in a tagged input or resource file, or in tags
generated in a rule) will not necessarily be collected. If needed, you can
create a dummy Formatted Text Resource and just put some random text in each
font you want to make sure to collect. (You don't actually have to use the
resource in the job.) You can see which fonts were collected in the collect
log file, or in the DIF file (in the <fontmetrics> section at the end).

Fonts that are already embedded in static background content in your template
PDF document will automatically get carried over to the output, even if you
don't have those fonts installed on any machine.

You should have a document called ServerFPDGuide.pdf in the Manuals folder
where you installed FusionPro. This is the reference for FusionPro Server and
Direct. You can also access this from the menu in Acrobat under FusionPro ->
Documentation -> Utilities Guide.

Regarding Brian's comments about font subsetting: as far as I know, subset
embedding works just fine. Brian, please let us know exactly what issues you
are seeing. (FusionPro Web uses FusionPro Server behind the scenes, by the
way. Before FusionPro, Printable was a DL-1000 customer, and they liked it so
much, they bought the whole company.)

Thanks,
Dan
