Revenge is not limited to blood feud killing. Every
time a person in power makes a young aspirant "pay their
dues" as a condition for advancement, because the
current power holder had to undergo such an ordeal
him or herself to get to their position of power
(teacher, boss, parent, etc.), *that's* REVENGE.
Nietzsche wrote: "That man be delivered from the
spirit of revenge is for me a bridge to the highest
hope and a rainbow after long storms". Nietzsche was
not just talking about Neoclassical Neanderthals
clubbing each other over the head.... Alice Miller
(_For Your Own Good_, etc.) makes the same point
about childrearing today.

Amen! A friend recently sent me a quote from a movie:

Yours in the continuing belief (hope...) that,
as the Yale professor (Preuss) whose class on
Hegel's _Phenomenology of Spirit_ I attended, began:
"A man eats, and a dog eats,
but the two do not thereby do the same thing."
