Indeed, a practical reason.  It is only in the last few months, that I have read about the concept of devaluation.  The ethic of growth until the end of time has been the prevailing ethic of capitalism and the market.  The question I would ask, is that the continuation of the status quo by giving money to buy more realistic given all the other problems we have?
 
Or should we be asking if we should voluntarily reduce work and consumption to sustainable levels of the worlds potential while at the same time guarantying everyone a seat in the boat.
